Welcome to Morana. This guide walks you from a fresh install to your first testnet transaction.
Morana is a public testnet. Testnet coins have no value and the network can be reset at any time.
1. Install the wallet
Download the latest build from the download page. On Linux, install the .deb or run the AppImage. Before you run it, read Verify Your Download: there is currently no way to authenticate a Morana binary, so building from source is the only real check.
2. Create a wallet
- Launch the wallet and choose Create new wallet.
- Set a strong password. This encrypts your local vault.
- Write down your 24-word seed phrase on paper and store it offline.
- Confirm the seed phrase when prompted.
3. Restore a wallet
You can restore from a seed phrase or from an encrypted .morbak backup. On restore, the wallet rescans from your birthday height through the light gateway.
4. Receive coins
Open Receive and copy a transparent address (tmor1q…) or a shielded address. Claim valueless coins from the testnet faucet to get started.
5. Send, shield, unshield
- Send public — transparent → transparent. Available today.
- Shield (transparent → shielded), Send private (shielded → shielded) and Unshield (shielded → transparent) are not yet available in the desktop app. The wallet can show your shielded balance and estimate what these would cost, but the command that builds and broadcasts them is not wired in. See Known Limitations.
Fees are estimated automatically with a sensible default.
6. Back up
Keep your seed phrase and your .morbak backup in separate, safe places. There is no cloud recovery — if you lose both, your funds are gone.
